It’s August and many in Northern Maine are thinking about the upcoming winter.   As Julia Bayly of the Bangor Daily News reported in Northern Maine

In Northern Maine, wealth is often measured in firewood.

rich: Where wealth of wood beats money in the bank, wealth for many in this region is measured in cords, not dollars.

Take a moment and you’ll notice a lot of large trucks cris-crossing Maine towns right now, dumping their cargo of cut and split logs in yards.    For the really ambitious, the pile of wood next to the log splitter is starting to grow.   Everyone remembers the harsh cold of last winter and nobody wants to run out in the middle of the upcoming one!
